How do you dive off a diving board or a dock?
There are many different ways in which to dive. For a straight forward depth dive (please make sure the water IS deep), stand with your big toes over the edge of the surface from which you are diving, hold your body straight and lift your arms above your head. Do not point your fingers in an arrow shape, as the idea of having them above you is to part the water ready for your body to follow. Cross your hands over, with one on top of the other, not interlinked. Have your palms facing upwards and as flat as possible (pretend you must balance a glass of water on them!).
Now, bend your knees to get yourself a little closer to the water, and move as if to do a handstand on the floor of the pool. Keep your back as straight as you can, and make sure to lift your legs up as you do, or your attempt will result in a belly flop 
I learned to lift my legs up by having a friend hold a broomstick about mid-shin level, and about half a meter away from the edge of the lake. This meant I could feel if my legs were too floppy! Not sure this would be allowed in a pool, though, maybe use an imaginary one instead!
As with all skills, this WILL take practice (and, with practice, comes a little embarrassment) There are many other types of dive, and I'm sure there are many other methods by which to learn. Hope this will help, and if not, good-luck finding one that suits you!
(Note:Please be aware that to dive from a dock you MUST be confident in the water! Never put yourself at unnecessary risk, and make SURE the water is deep enough (Normal pools are not usually deep enough to dive! Check with a lifeguard if in doubt
